A Journey of Discovery
Nami began with a simple journey to Southern Philippines, where we discovered communities of weavers who had been practicing their craft for generations. The intricate patterns, the vibrant colors, and the stories woven into each fabric captivated us completely.
We saw an opportunity to share these treasures with the world while supporting the artisans who create them. By combining their traditional weaving with premium leather craftsmanship, we created something truly unique — pieces that honor the past while embracing modern design.
The name “Nami” means “wave” in Japanese, symbolizing the continuous flow of tradition from one generation to the next, and from our artisans' hands to yours.
The Weavers
Our pieces feature weaving from indigenous communities across Southern Philippines, each with their own distinct patterns and traditions.
T'boli
The T'boli people of South Cotabato are renowned for their T'nalak, a sacred cloth woven from abaca fibers. The patterns are said to come from dreams, passed down through generations of dream weavers.
Yakan
From Basilan, the Yakan create vibrant geometric patterns using traditional backstrap looms. Their bold colors and precise designs reflect their rich cultural heritage and artistic mastery.
Maranao
The Maranao of Lanao del Sur are famous for their malong, a versatile tubular garment with intricate langkit designs. Their weaving represents centuries of artistry and cultural pride.
Our Craft
Each Nami piece is handcrafted by skilled leather artisans who share our passion for quality and detail. We source premium full-grain leather that develops a beautiful patina over time, becoming more unique with every use.
The integration of woven fabric requires careful consideration — each panel is placed to highlight the pattern while ensuring durability. Our artisans spend hours on each piece, from cutting to stitching to finishing.
